Rabbi's Words

Rabbi Pivo

From Rabbi Pivo

A  journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.  Taking the time to enter our website, and then to find the rabbi's message, are the first steps in what I hope will be a journey into the community of Congregation Beth El.

Barukhim haba'im – welcome!  I am delighted that you have come this far.  Let me bring you a few steps closer by telling you a bit about who we are and what we are doing. Congregation Beth El is an egalitarian Conservative synagogue, where we affirm the beauty and power of Jewish tradition, while infusing it with the energy and vigor of modernity.  We are creating a home for Jews of all ages and backgrounds who seek tradition, community and learning without sacrificing intellectual honesty.

Whether it is in our religious school, in daily, Shabbat and Yom Tov minyans, through ongoing adult study or in social settings, Beth El provides meaningful links to our shared Jewish past and enables us to forge new links to the future.  What we offer is the shared experience of praying, studying and celebrating together in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

This year, we will have numerous opportunities for children and adults to socialize and make new friends through youth groups, Sisterhood and Men's Club activites and in havurot.  We are also embarking on a major adult education campaign.  Our minyan has met daily, without interruption, for forty years. In these ways and many more, we are meeting the religious, ritual, educational and social needs of our members.  We are also embarking on a major expansion of our building, with the addition of a large sanctuary, social hall and kitchen.

I invite you to visit the synagogue and take a tour.  I would love to meet you and find out what you are looking for, where the next step of your journey is taking you.  I sincerely hope that it will be through our doors and into our Beth El family.
